"Get Published!"

*Panel Discussion

Small, independent publishers offer authors a “third way” to get published – something between the do-it-all path of self-publishing and the hard-to-get traditional publishing house.

A moderated panel of three top publishers in the industry will discuss with members & guests:
  • How small publishers work with authors
  • Why an author may choose a small publisher over a large publishing house or self-publishing
  • What small publishers are looking for in manuscripts
  • How to get the attention of a small publisher and garner interest in your work

*The Panel:

Sam Henrie, publisher, Wheatmark Publishing, Tucson, AZ: Sam founded Wheatmark in 1999, and publishes about 60 titles a year in all genres. The company manages design, editing, distribution and e-book formatting for its authors, and provides assistance with marketing. Sam developed an Authors Academy, which provides teleseminars and marketing talks monthly for his authors.

Marci Baun, publisher, WildChild Publishing, Los Angeles: Marci publishes 20 to 30 e-books and print-on-demand titles a year under the WildChild label and the Freya’s Bower imprint. WildChild's works range from stand-alone 10,000-word shorts (online) to most fictional genres (online and POD). Freya’s Bower publishes romance and erotica. She charges no up-front fee; pays royalties; and provides design, formatting, editing, proofreading, and distribution.

Billie Johnson, publisher, Oak Tree Press, Corcoran, CA: Billie has managed Oak Tree for 18 years, publishing about 48 books a year. She has cut back on the number of books she publishes so she can spend more time promoting her authors and garnering distribution. She publishes mysteries, memoirs of the not-so-famous, romances and police stories.
