Presenter: Allen Plone
Unraveling the mystery of the poem. Emphasis on the craft or writing poetry, including poetic diction, metaphor, simile, meter and rhythm. The different poetic forms are shown and discussed; lyric, prose, sonnet and ekphrastic are emphasized. Modern poetry, including rap and slam are explored. The class delves into the intention behind a poem and the why of a poem, not what a poem means. For prose writers, the class investigates how poetic diction and metaphor can spark your writing, making it come alive in a heart-to-heart connection with your reader. Attendees are encouraged to bring in three to five of their poems for analysis. Each attendee will be given a 50 page manual to help them with their poetic intentions, regardless of what they may be.
