Polishing Your Short Story to A Publishable Shine

Barbara DeMarco-Barrett

DeMarco-Barrett’s essays and articles have seen print in various publications including Inlandia, The Ocotillo Review, and The Los Angeles Times among others. Throughout the year she teaches “Pen on Fire” for Gotham Writers Workshop (online), Advanced Creative Writing at Saddleback College’s Emeritus Institute, and holds two private workshops. She co-hosts “Writers on Writing” on KUCI-FM, broadcasting from UC-Irvine. Most recently, Barbara edited the acclaimed desert short-story anthology, Palm Springs Noir.

Description of talk:

An experienced short story writer with an eye for the market, Barbara most recently commissioned thirteen short stories for Palm Springs Noir. And, according to Publisher's Weekly "there wasn’t a dud in the bunch." How did Barbara accomplish this? In this workshop you will learn ways to detect when your story is working, when it’s not, and the reasons for both. If you love to write and/or read short stories, this is the workshop for you.
