Dessa Reed
The Poetry of Prose

This unique workshop can benefit all writers. Poet Dessa Reed will show participants how understanding the basic elements of the poetic craft can enhance all our literary works (even emails!) Discover how metaphors, imagery, alliteration, clarity and an original combination of creative words can help make us better fiction and non-fiction writers.

In a dry spell? Another reason to sign up for this class! Appreciating poetry can help us use an economy of language and "write tight" when it comes to prose.

If you have dabbled in poetry and want to learn how to improve your skills, Dessa will cover that as well. If you want a piece critiqued, please bring a sample of your work to the session with a few extra copies to share. The class will be loose, casual and fun.  Feel free to call Dessa in advance with questions about the workshop 760-327-4134.

Dessa Reed, author of two books and many published articles and poems, has an amazing story to tell that entertains as well as enlightens and encourages her audiences. Speaking to social and business groups, she helps individuals discover the joy and elegance of “poetic living.”

Dessa found her poetic voice during months of recovery from a near-fatal auto accident in 1997. From wheelchair to full recovery she began her journey of putting insights, observations and emotions into poetry and prose.

As a speaker, Reed inspires and motivates others to live their lives with creativity, clarity, and confidence. She has spoken to audiences around the country as well as in Paris, France and has given lectures in both Beijing and Shanghai, China.

Her amazing story of healing and turning adversity into victory is also recorded in her two books. Dessa's newest Butterfly Touch is a CD size booklet with several favorite poems from her first two books but with new narrative and emphasis on encouraging those going through some adversity to discover the comforting power of finding their own poetic voice.

Seven Bridges, published three years after her first book, is evidence that a poet gets better by writing more poetry. The book is organized into various themes that a reader can readily identify with, for example, the past, special moments, and as Dessa calls it "the silly."
