November Insider Workshop
What Not to Include in Your Book Proposal That Would Turn Off a Potential Publisher

Guest Speaker: Rudy Shur

Rudy Shur began his publishing career working for Charles E. Merrill Publishing Company and later William C. Brown Publishing Company. In 1976, he cofounded Avery Publishing Group, where he was responsible for the acquisition of over 1,000 nonfiction titles, many of which became bestsellers. By 1999, the company had grown into one of the largest alternative health publishers in the US. In that year, Avery was purchased by Penguin Putnam. The following year, Mr. Shur founded Square One Publishers in Garden City Park, New York, where as publisher he currently heads the editorial program. For several years, Square One was selected by Publishers Weekly as one of the fastest growing indie publishing houses in the US. Today, the company stands as the largest independently-owned publisher of traditional and complimentary health books in the US. Mr. Shur is currently a board member of the Independent Book Publishers Association.

In addition, he is also the author of How To Publish Your Nonfiction Book, Second Edition. He lectures extensively on the topic of publishing at numerous universities, colleges and professional workshops throughout the country.

Even though our speaker's focus will be on non-fiction, he will also address the fiction market as well.
