About Steven Bychyk and Joella Muncel
Steven Bychyk, a poet and film graduate from Victoria, British Columbia, channels life with Asperger’s into vivid, Jim Morrison–inspired poetry that reveals the depth and rhythm of his inner world.
Kate Spencer, a mental health professional turned poet, found creative awakening in the Mojave Desert. Writing as Joella Muncel, she explores self-discovery and authenticity through poetry, fairy tales, and The White Tigerproject.
Presentation Overview: Words have meaning, and the way those words come together is meaningful. Poetry can be written to allow readers to glimpse a world of thought and ideas that differ from their own, or it can be used as a therapeutic method that enables others to gain insight into one’s understanding of the world.
In this workshop, you will:
-
Hear two poems that express the inner thoughts of a person with Asperger’s syndrome.
-
Analyze the Power of Poetry to move the message from Story into Reality.
-
Discuss why the human brain loves poetry.
- Discuss the history of Poetry as a vehicle for Storytelling and Mythmaking.
